4. The Donner Party

A party of 90 emigrated from Springfield Illinois to California but were trapped in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Only half made it as the other half got eaten. Jacob and George Donner led the people through the Fort Bridger Wyoming trail, which was thought to be a shorter route. Hasting left a note that said the trail would be more difficult, as he was supposed to mark the trail.
